Broken Promises

On a warm Nov. afternoon, Ruby and her boys moved into their new home. After the last load was moved into the house, Ruby sat down on the couch after her boys went to bed; as the TV was on, Ruby drifted in the thought of what this year had brought her and made her wonder what was in store for her in the near yr. Deeming any possibilities of true love. She sits there with a pillow in her arms and she’s filled with doubt, fear, undesired, and hopelessness. She starts to believe that what she truly wants is unattainable, so she makes a promise to her boys and herself that from now on, it’s just gonna be the 3 of them.
It’s been a year, and Ruby is sitting on the porch reminiscing about the last year. How far she had come in such a short time. Getting everything back on track. She thinks about what her ex had done to her and the many flags that came along. She is focused on one night back in July with her ex he came in and wrapped his arms around her and whispered we will go out to dinner tonight be ready, gave her a peck on the cheek and walked out the door. As the day goes by Ruby is getting prepared for their date, but throughout the day, he texts her with the omg you wouldn’t believe what just happened; the next thing she knows it is 3 am. And he doesn’t return for 2-3 days. As a tear slides down Ruby’s cheek, she shacks her head and rubs her eyes. Telling herself that there is no way that she can trust someone with her heart and that it’s not fair to anyone that I can’t. As she stands up, Reba a Chihuahua, is dancing around Ruby’s feet and Ruby tells Reba yea I know, baby, let’s go for a walk, as the two of them are walking down the steps.
